Questions About Applying to BDEA
How do I know if I am eligible to apply to BDEA?
The eligibility requirements for enrollment at BDEA are the following:
- You must be between the age of 16 and 22 years old by the time of enrollment
- You must be registered as a student in Boston Public Schools (BPS)
Students cannot be enrolled at BDEA once they have turned 23. For more information on how to register in Boston Public Schools , please visit this BPS Website which explains how to navigate this process with support from one of the city’s four Welcome Centers.
When can I apply to BDEA?
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the school year and summer. Students are enrolled at the beginning of each trimester during the academic year: September, December, January, and April. Applications submitted between April and August will be considered for September enrollment. Applications submitted between September and March will be considered for enrollment the following trimester.
How do I start the application process?
The admissions process at BDEA begins with completing an online application which is written in English and can be translated into any language using the toggle button at the top of the application page.
We welcome you to contact BDEA’s Admissions Manager at 617-635-6789 or mmoise@bostonpublicschools.org for help with this process. We can begin to get to know you and will give you the information you need to feel confident moving ahead with your application.
Do I need to submit anything besides the application form?
Yes, you will need to submit your transcripts, and any applicable educational documents, including IEPs, and MCAS scores from any previous schools that you have attended. You can submit these forms through the online application or can send them separately to the BDEA Admissions Manager at mmoise@bostonpublicschools.org. Your application cannot be considered until we receive all required forms.
What can I expect after submitting my application?
Applications are received on a rolling basis, year-round. After you submit your application, please allow two weeks for processing. Our Admissions Manager will contact you to schedule an interview. The interview process allows us to get to know you better while answering questions you may have about our school.
What is the next step after my interview?
After your first interview, the Admissions Manager may ask to schedule a second interview with you and your parent or guardian. Once you complete the interview process, you will be invited to a mandatory orientation session.
How do I know if I am accepted?
After your orientation session, someone from BDEA’s Admissions Office will contact you with an admission decision. If accepted, you will have 48 hours to respond and reserve your seat. Please reach out and let us know you want to attend BDEA! If there are no seats available for your chosen start time at the time of acceptance, you can choose to be added to the waitlist for the lottery.
