Tehka Bowen, a fourth-generation Bostonian who grew up on Mission Hill in Roxbury, joined BDEA in 2021. She received her B.A. in Political Science from Wellesley College. After working in many different professions, Ms. Bowen began her career in BPS as a substitute teacher. After receiving her  M.S. Ed. in Special Education from Simmons College, Ms. Bowen became a permanent teacher within BPS. She chose BPS, because of the ethnic and linguistic diversity represented by students and staff. During her career, Ms. Bowen has served in a variety of roles within both middle and high school settings across the district. She has taught within substantially separate, general education and inclusive settings. Ms. Bowen enjoys interacting with students, staff, parents, and community partners in her role as a Coordinator of Special Education.

Her love of learning and community service has taken her to many countries. Ms. Bowen’s ultimate goal is to visit every continent and to become proficient in a third language. She is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
